چکیده

Introduction Angle-closure disease (both primary and secondary) is a spectrum of disorders characterized by iridotrabecular contact obstructing aqueous outflow. Anterior segment imaging plays an important role in understanding the pathophysiology of angle closure, diagnosis, and monitoring the treatment, especially in challenging cases. Indirect gonioscopy, the gold standard for visualizing the anterior chamber angle (ACA) is a subjective technique with moderate agreement among experts and inability to visualize structures posterior to the iris. It is affected by room illumination, pressure on the globe, clinicians’ skill, and patient cooperation. With advances in technology, many instruments are available for imaging the anterior segment. Each comes with its own advantages and limitations which the clinician must consider while making decisions.

Changing Trends of Imaging in Angle Closure Evaluation

Primary angle closure glaucoma (PACG) is a significant cause of visual disability worldwide. It predominantly affects the Eastern and South Asian population of the world. Early detection of anatomically narrow angles is important, and the subsequent prevention of visual loss from PACG depends on an accurate assessment of the anterior chamber angle (ACA). Gonioscopy has given way to modern day i...

Anterior-segment retinoblastoma mimicking pseudoinflammatory angle-closure glaucoma: review of the literature and the important role of imaging.

A 7-year-old boy presented with angle-closure glaucoma, initially presumed to be idiopathic. A ciliary body mass was later detected on MR imaging, suggestive of medulloepithelioma but pathologically proved to be diffuse infiltrating retinoblastoma. We discuss the patient management and review the literature, with emphasis on the role of CT and MR imaging in evaluating pediatric angle-closure gl...

Anterior Segment Optical Coherence Tomography for the Quantitative Evaluation of the Anterior Segment Following Boston Keratoprosthesis

OBJECTIVE To quantitatively evaluate the anterior segment using anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) following Boston keratoprosthesis type 1. METHODS A retrospective study consisted of AS-OCT imaging at a single time point postoperatively in 52 eyes. Main outcomes measures include anatomical and functional anterior chamber depth (ACD), angle (ACA) and peripheral and proxima...

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) of the Anterior Eye Segment

Description of Procedure or Service Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a high resolution method of imaging the ocular structures. OCT for the anterior eye segment is being evaluated as a non-invasive diagnostic and screening tool for the detection of angle closure glaucoma, to assess corneal thickness and opacity, evaluate pre-surgical and postsurgical anterior chamber anatomy, calculate int...

Qualitative evaluation of anterior segment in angle closure disease using anterior segment optical coherence tomography

PURPOSE To evaluate different mechanisms of primary angle closure (PAC) and to quantify anterior chamber (AC) parameters in different subtypes of angle closure disease using anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT). METHODS In this prospective study, 115 eyes of 115 patients with angle closure disease were included and categorized into three groups: 1) fellow eyes of acute angle...
